Christo Wiese is a Chartered Accountant and former Registrar of Banks at the South African Reserve Bank. He studied at the Universities of Cape Town and Witwatersrand. He completed his articles at Deloitte where he subsequently became a senior manager. His tour of duty for Deloittes included Johannesburg, Windhoek, Chicago and Pretoria.

In 1977, he joined Volkskas Merchant Bank where he established the finance department, and was responsible for developing, and implementing systems and controls. Thereafter he joined the South African Central Bank with varying roles during his tenure which included the responsibility for the internal finance and operational activities of the banking supervision.

In the final ten years, before retiring in 2003, he headed the banking regulation and supervision function of the Central Bank and served as a member of all the operational committees. After retiring from the South African Reserve Bank, he spent the following years as a consultant for the International Monetary Fund, working in Africa and beyond. Assignments included the regulatory and supervisory department of The Peoples Republic of China, funded by the IMF, to assess requirements to ensure compliance with the Basel Core Principles for Effective Banking Supervision.  He was also consultant to First Initiative in the West African Monetary Zone performing an externally assisted self-assessment of the Basel Core Principles for Effective Banking Supervision.

He recently joined the Board of a company establishing a service industry in SADC with headquarters in George. At this juncture of his career, he regards it as an honour to participate in being part of a team with the goal of assisting with recovery and future well-being in the region.

Wiese is the Non-Executive, Independent Director of First Mayibuye and is in charge of Corporate Governance and Oversight. He is authorised to report any mismanagement or malfeasance to any authority he should deem appropriate, such as the CIPC (Companies and Intellectual Property Commission).
